3rd Amtrac Bn-Camp Lauer Marble Mtns South West of DaNang South Vietnam 1968
From inside camp near mess hall to the left...H&S Company to the right....Motor Transport Butler Bldg. in front of the Marble Mountain, named by Marines as Chin Strap. Chin Strap had at it's base, the village Of Nui Kim Son...largest village in the area and the place where Vietnamese craftsmen chiseled marble statues and desk top name plates.. Not able to be seen is the Buddhist Temple...half way up the mountain. We had orders, that due to historic and religous nature of the ancient Temple. no harm should ever come to it. Didn't work out that way...On 25 Aug 1968 we put several rocket holes from Cobras, in various places, in order to save Green Berets and Nungs on top of the high crest in the center. Still working on the details of that occasion for publishing. Read Sapper Attack

Results of mined vehicle. This vehicle was returned to duty. Skull painted on bow...3-B-12 Bravo Company

Col Bob Shuford and Queenie. A patrol dog that due to injury could not be used as such. Arrangements were made for getting the dog by my contacting a Marine from West Palm Beach who was a dog handler...and who I heard on a radio interview before we both left for Vietnam..

Very important building..It was included on a drawing made by the NVA's prior to the attack on the Marble Mountain area in Aug. 1968. The engineering drawing was probably made by sitting on the mountain in front of the CP. Nevertheless, the NVA officer who made the drawing and one other NVA soldier were shot and killed and the drawing was found in his shoulder bag. The small hooch pictured here was labeled "CO's Toilet."

One of Queenies new pups. She was bred with one of the attack Doberman's assigned to the Battalion.
